Observation/Reasoning
Narihiro Tanaka, Kiyohiro Oh, and Janho Seo
The source of morality is observationa and/or reasoning since we, human beings, utilize reasoning in everyday life to understand, believe, and to live in this world. But in order to acquire "reason," we use the knowledge of "observation" to gather information from our world.
In Immanuel Kant's categorical imperative, he stated that imperative is something that everyone must follow in order to maintain this world. "We should act in ways that we can wish that every person would act." (Wikipedia). Simply, what Immanuel wants to say is that in order to maintain this world in a good way, everyone has to act in the way people around you would feel comfortable (be moral).
On the other hand, John Stuart Mill`s principle of utility suggested that moral action and rules will bring greatest benefit to everyone therefore it motivates happiness to everyone.
Overall, people get morality through observation in a society because everyone acts in the way people around them feel comfortable and as a result, these action will provide the best benefit which promote happiness.
